monday
we’re taking Mondays off this summer for the first time ever. So far, the business has condenced into the 5 remain days and the extra personal days is proving good for all of us. So many other small businesses are closed Mondays it’s a little difficult for us to support each other but regardless, a two day weekend is pretty important. As I think about the season so far.I think about the variety of bikes we’ve seen. eBikes come to mind first but only because they’re so varied and reletivly new but the nice road bikes from we’ve been selling from Cannondale and putting in our repair stand from seemingly every brand on the planet has been fun. More than half of eBikes sold here in the US are purchased online and it seems like a new brand shows up in that digital marketplace every day. The big issue there is that nearly every brand is using proprietary or at lease customized electronic components in order to differentiate or improve their product and those components are rarely stocked for repair. The result there is an eBike that works just fine until a part breaks and it is suddenly unrepairable and therefore doomed for the trash. We sell Aventon, Cannondale, and Kona bikes powered by Bosch or Shimano motors because these brands have good diagnostic support and have the parts available to maintain their equipment. Our own diagnostic process is thurough and we are able to identify the failing component on any ebike. We can test batteries and individual parts but that doesn’t mean the brand has those parts available for replacement. Besides the time we spend on eBikese these days we also have to focus on the new technology while not forgetting the old. We have repaired Shimano Di2 as well as SRAM AXS electronic shifting and vintage friction derailleurs from Suntour or Simplex. we’ve pressing sealed bearings in and out of carbon frames as well as overhauled the planetary gears and loose ball bearings inside old 3 speed hubs. We did more suspension service this winter than years past, Fox, Rockshox, and even some Marzocchi. We service the lowers and air cans in house and have some great suspension shops we work with for the nitrogen charging, bigger rebuilds or repairs. We like doing that work in the winter when folks don’t mind leaving their bike with us for a few weeks. While the summer is here, we’re working hard to keep up with all the work orders, simple tire changes, an eBike that just suddenly stopped working, or big upgrades to your mountain bike. Folks get ahold of us for service all kinds of ways, emailing, calling, messaging on socials, but we most prefer text message. If you send us a message it pops up on our computer and is easy to respond to. We are also generally open to walk-ins so long as you’re able to leave your bike with us. Right now, we’re finishing small jobs in just a day or two and bigger tune ups within a week. I hope you’re getting some good miles in so far this season, we’ll be available when your bike needs a tune.
